The Furietti Centaurs in the Capitoline Museum, Rome. They bear the inscription of Aristeas and Papias of Aphrodisias. Not Rome, Not Athens, nor Alexandria, nor Corinth, nor Antioch. That such work was made so far away from the principal art markets and auction houses of those ancient times bolsters my belief that in many ages, the best art is made far from the so -called “capitals.”
